Pronto 478 is the newest venue from the family behind Shop225 in Pascoe Vale South and Il Caminetto in Moonee Ponds, both of which are widely regarded among Melbourne's finest Italian restaruants.

While our other restaurants are built around unhurried dining, Pronto takes a different approach. In Pronto, the same standards are applied to a faster format. As a result, we operate as a takeaway and delivery kitchen with no dine-in or waiting. Our menu reflects that focus. Alongside Roman-style pizza and hand-rolled pasta, we serve the golden Sicilian and Roman bites found in markets across southern Italy. In short, this is street food prepared to restaurant standards.

Pronto 478 is the work of Lorenzo Tron, an Italian-born pizza entrepreneur, and co-owner Roberto Davoli, the team behind the award-winning SHOP 225 and Il Caminetto. Pronto 478 is the next chapter of that story, told at street-food pace.

For Lorenzo, food has one job: to bring people together. Growing up in Italy, every meal was a moment to connect, whether a quick bite between errands or a long table with family. That's what he wanted for Bentleigh: high-quality Italian cooking without the price tag or formality of a restaurant, which is why everything on the menu sits under $25.

His kitchens were among the first in Australia accredited by Coeliac Australia and certified by Vegan Australia, and Pronto 478 carries the same commitment: vegan, vegetarian, gluten-free and dairy-free options, so everyone at the table eats well.

Pronto 478 was founded on a principle: haste and quality are not opposing forces. Our kitchen begins its work hours before the first order arrives, proving dough, simmering sauces and shaping each component by hand. By the time we open, the most demanding stages are complete, which is precisely why a meal can reach you within minutes and still carry the depth of something far slower. The effort has not been removed. It has simply been undertaken in advance, so that you are never asked to wait for it. It is the same discipline our sister venues are built on, each one serving Italian food in its own way, all of it prepared with the same patience.

In Italy, street food isn't a trend, but it's a tradition older than most restaurants. It's fried snacks from Sicilian markets, pizza al taglio handed over Roman counters, a panino eaten standing up because it's too good to wait for a table. Fast has never meant careless.

We could have opened anywhere in Melbourne. We chose 478 Centre Road because Bentleigh feels the way an Italian neighbourhood should: a genuine high street where locals know each other and the community shows up for its traders. Centre Road already has the rhythm of a piazza, and it just needed the food to match.

We didn't come to be another restaurant on the strip. We came to be locals, the quick lunch between errands, the fuss-free family dinner, the catering call when the whole street turns up for a birthday.
